If you have excess upper or lower eyelid skin, bags or puffiness, drooping skin, or conditions that make you look tired or upset, cosmetic eyelid surgery may be a procedure worth considering.
Typically, eyelid surgery results in a more youthful, rested, and energetic appearance by correcting excess skin, tissue and fat that contribute to puffiness, bags, and wrinkles in the upper and lower eyelids.
Advantages of Eyelid Surgery
- Reduction of bags, puffiness, fat and sagging
- Improvement in vision
- Improvement in facial expression
- Preservation of facial spontaneity
- Improved self-confidence in one’s image
- A more youthful, well-rested appearance
- Can be combined with a facelift or fat transfer
- Long-lasting, permanent results
- Well-hidden scars
Am I A Good Candidate?
Dr. Stevens recommends the eyelift procedure for adult men and women who have healthy facial tissue and muscles. They should also have no serious illnesses or a medical condition that can impair the healing process. A good candidate needs to have realistic goals for results and improvement of the upper and/or lower eyelids and surrounding area.
Additionally, good blepharoplasty candidates should be non-smokers, or willing to quit. They should be roughly between 35 and 70 years of age.
Details of the procedure
Dr. Stevens will excise the excess skin and fat, hiding the scar in the upper lid crease and within the crow’s feet area. On the lower lid, he will hide the scar within the eyelid. He then mobilizes the fat and transposes it down over the lower border of the lid to soften the dark circles and flatten the bags.
In some cases, Dr. Stevens may need to remove skin as well and will place that incision directly under the lash line
What to expect after surgery
Post-surgery may include some swelling, bruising, irritation or dry eyes and discomfort. However, this can be controlled with medication, cold compresses and ointment. It is also possible that irritation at the incision sites may occur. It is important to practice diligent sun protection and to use darkly tinted glasses until the healing process is complete.
