If you have large or protruding ears that make you feel self-conscious or insecure, ear surgery may be right for you.
This procedure, also known as otoplasty, is a surgical procedure that can help by setting prominent ears back closer to the head or reducing the size of large ears.
Am I A Good Candidate?
Dr. Stevens recommends otoplasty for healthy individuals in Beverly Hills with realistic expectations for improving the appearance of large or prominent ears. Individuals should also have no life-threatening illness or untreated chronic ear infections. The most common candidates are children between the ages of four and fourteen. However, otoplasty is performed on adults as well.
What to expect after surgery
In the first few days following ear surgery, throbbing or aching may occur. Medication can help to control this. Patients will also wear a bulky bandage over the head for several days that will then be replaced with a lighter, headband-like dressing.
It is crucial that bandages remain intact and are not removed. Failure to do so may result in the loss of some correction and a second operation may be needed.
Swelling, redness and numbness can also occur. Work, school and other light activity can be resumed usually within five to seven days of the otoplasty procedure. Here are links for more information:
