Concerns
Recovery
Your Mommy Makeover recovery may be longer than it would have been for a single procedure, but it will be far shorter than undergoing multiple separate operations each with their own recovery. Because the Mommy Makeover is customized for every patient, the recovery experience can vary greatly. You should carefully follow all postoperative instructions given by Dr. Stevens to ensure a smooth recovery. Prescribed medications should be taken to limit the risk of infection and reduce any discomfort. Drains and compression garments may be needed depending on the procedures included in your Mommy Makeover. Swelling and bruising in the areas operated on may last a few weeks. Patients should rest at home for at least several days and limit their activities for several weeks. Strenuous activities and exercise should be avoided for a full six weeks. Dr. Stevens will inform patients when it is appropriate for them to return to work (typically two to three weeks after the surgery).
Schedule a ConsultationScars
Patients should expect some degree of scarring after the Mommy Makeover. The extent of scarring will depend on the surgical incisions and your body’s capacity for healing. Women who undergo breast surgery will likely have scars either under the breast fold or around the areolas. Those who undergo a tummy tuck will likely have scarring in the lower abdomen, approximately where a c-section incision is placed. Liposuction typically leaves only small, inconspicuous incisions or no scars at all, and BOTOX® Cosmetic injections do not leave any scarring. Patients who carefully comply with all postoperative instructions may have less visible scars as a result. All scars should fade over time and can be minimized by avoiding trauma to the incision sites during recovery, using silicone scar sheets, and limiting sun exposure.
Schedule a ConsultationPain
Anesthesia is used to prevent pain during the surgery. Discomfort during recovery can be alleviated by taking prescribed pain medications. During an abdominoplasty, Dr. Stevens also inserts a pain pump catheter to deliver anesthetic directly to the repaired muscles if needed. Any pain is temporary and is a natural part of the body’s healing process.
