Significant weight loss can result in rapid and dramatic results. But for some, the downside to this can lead to an excess of loose or hanging skin as well as residual areas of fat.
Others may experience this due to aging, genetics or pregnancy. With a skillful surgeon, the body lift can improve your shape to its rightful proportions.
Am I a Good Candidate?
Dr. Stevens recommends the body lift procedure for adult men and women who are physically healthy and looking to improve excessive loose or sagging skin. It’s also important that patients have realistic goals for improvement. Postponing surgery may be advised for individuals planning future weight loss or pregnancy.
What to Expect After Surgery
Due to the combination of several procedures at once, the recovery for the body lift procedure is often more lengthy than with other cosmetic procedures. It is common to experience swelling and discomfort during the initial healing process. This can be alleviated with prescription medication. To minimize swelling and help the body adjust to its new contours, a compression garment will need to be worn for about four to six weeks after surgery.
Drains are often inserted after surgery to collect excess fluid and these are typically removed within five to seven days. A return to work and light activity can be expected within about two to four weeks after the body lift procedure.
